Activity Captain and Service Area Liaison

The Project Return Peer Support Network Activity Captain Program seeks to foster independence, empowerment, and full community inclusion by encouraging peers to go into their communities, working together on low cost/no cost activities of interest.

The Activity Captain Program provides two volunteer positions with paid stipends.

Activity Captain

Roles and Responsibilities

The Activity Captain will perform the following tasks in agreement with the supervisor of the Activity Captain Program and the Service Area Liaison:

  • Organize and facilitate a meeting with peers from the identified service area in non-mental health agencies, to gather ideas related to community integration activities, events, trips and social outings
  • Research those ideas that meet the income limitations of the group
  • Research low/free cost community activities
  • Promote the activities in the community (flyers, emails, phone calls etc.)
  • Attend and participate in at least community integration activity with the group
  • Complete all required paperwork in responsible and timely manner
  • Report to their assigned Service Area Liaison

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • An understanding of the importance of Community Integration in a person’s recovery
  • Enthusiasm with the desire to participate fully in the community
  • Ability to relate positively to a large variety of people
  • Willingness to learn skills for effective facilitation in various settings
  • Be able to complete required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Service Area Liaison

The Service Area Liaison will perform the following tasks in agreement with the Manager of the Activity Captain Program:

  • Meet Monthly with the Activity Captains in the Service Areas of responsibilities
  • Collect paperwork and process it in accordance with Project Return Peer Support Network practices
  • Provide feedback and support
  • Ensure that all activities function as scheduled
  • Identify, nurture and arrange for paid volunteer Activity
  • Promote the activities in the community (flyers, emails, phone calls etc.)
  • Attend and participate in at least community integration activity with the group
  • Complete all required paperwork in responsible and timely manner
  • Report to their assigned Program Manager, face to face, email and over the phone
